Azucena奥尔蒂斯 is at Delaware Tech to follow her passion – working with and helping children.

“Since I was little, I knew I wanted to work with children,”她说。. “In high school, my technical area was early childhood education. 

“I want to help children learn while making it effective and valuable for them.”

Ortiz has already earned her associate degree in elementary education and is now enrolled in the College’s Bachelor of Science in Education (BSE) program. She said being at Delaware Tech has given her all of the experiences she was hoping for when she was in high school.

“Delaware Tech is a great college for students because they are given many opportunities,奥尔蒂斯说. “My advisors always looked out to make sure I was successful and with their help I was able to start gaining experience with working with children at the College’s Child Development Center.”

Ortiz said her experiences with her teachers growing up just reinforced her interest in the profession and her time at Delaware Tech has made her ready to be a teacher.

“I’ve always had great elementary school teachers who I’ve looked up to and wanted to be like,”她说。. “I hope to become a role model like they were for me and be someone my students can come to about anything without hesitation.

“Delaware Tech has provided me with experiences that will help me in my future classroom, and I feel fully prepared and confident to start working in a classroom setting.” 

After graduating from the BSE program, Ortiz said she would like to become a third-grade teacher.
